To the Darke family, dear old friends from Fanwood;
I am at a total loss to express how sorry I feel
for the passing of your son and brother, John.
I vividly remember the day I met John, trying out his go cart on the hill in front of my house. I think we were five or six back then. We chatted up a storm but I didn't see him again until the first day of first grade, when we shared the exuberance of discovering we were in the same class. That day made such an impression on me that I can still see the blue and white checkered shirt he wore.
Although we never again ended up in the same class throughout our school years, I feel blessed and honored that we remained friends and kept in touch for over 50 years.
That same charisma that attracted me to John in 1964 continued to shine throughout his life. He easily made friends where ever he went, finally settling on Boulder as his home, where he helped form a community of beautiful, caring, folks.
John was a light in the lives of many and he will be severely missed.
I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers.
With love and sincere condolences,
Rob
