Obituary for Jeanne Bernadette "Lolli" Sheils (Berrigan)

Jeanne "Lolli" (Berrigan) Sheils, of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, born on December 9, 1925 in New York to James and Mabel (McCarthy) Berrigan, passed away peacefully at age 93 on January 16, 2019. Lolli was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Richard (Dick), daughter Megan and brother Martin Berrigan, all of whom are dancing with joy welcoming her into heaven. She is survived by 9 children and their spouses: James (Cheryl) of Dennis, MA, Jeanne Twohig (Glenn Hladek) of Missoula, MT, Richard A. Jr, (Mary) of Holden, MA, Elizabeth Howard (Christopher) of Elizabeth, NJ, Michael (Shea Ann Herzog) of Springfield, OH, Christopher (Teresa) of Tampa, FL, Susan Brott (Daren) of Coeur d'Alene, ID, William (Martha) of Portland, ME and Maura Diehl (Daniel) of Yardley, PA. She will be deeply missed by relatives Donna Berrigan and Melodee Sheils. Jeanne was blessed with 28 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and countless nieces, nephews and dear friends. She had a deep love and dedication to our Lord; she and Dick were active parishioners at St. Genevieve Church in Elizabeth for 52 years before moving to Seabrook Retirement Community. Lolli had many interests, but nothing gave her greater joy than being with her family, particularly her grandchildren. She chose the grandmother nickname "Lolli" to complement "Pops," the name the grandkids called their grandfather. She soon became "Lolli" to all. Although her dinner tables were full with family, she always made room for more. At age 59, she fulfilled a lifelong dream of finishing college and earning her Master’s Degree. Lolli was a joyous spirit and a fireball of laughter, with a kind word for everyone. She saw the best in people. Although our hearts are heavy, we take great comfort knowing that Lolli, after having lived such a rich and purposeful life, is now reunited with Dick, the love of her life, and their precious daughter, Megan.

Visitation is Monday, January 21, 11:30am - 12:45pm at St Genevieve Church, Elizabeth, NJ., followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00pm.
