Obituary for Mary E. Balla

Mary E. Balla, 82, formerly of Elizabeth and recently of Spring Lake, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019.
Mary was born in Scranton and raised in Throop, Pa. As a young woman she moved to Elizabeth and lived there until moving to Spring Lake in 2018. She had always enjoyed visiting Spring Lake and was grateful for the opportunity to have moved there.
Mary attended night classes at Kean University for seven years, majoring in English, and earned her Bachelor’s Degree, with Honors, while simultaneously working as an Administrative Assistant for various firms. In earlier years, she served as a Sunday School Teacher. She was a world traveler, having visited Russia, Greece, Italy, Scotland and Alaska. She enjoyed writing, poetry, music and painting. Above all else, Mary was devoted to her family throughout her life, always putting the well-being of her parents and siblings above that of herself.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Kathleen (Frekey) Balla, and by a brother, John Balla. She is survived by her siblings, Joseph, Paulette and Nick Balla. Also surviving are Mary’s nephews, Stephen, Kevin and Jeffrey Balla, and her niece, Angel Balla.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home. 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, from 2-6 PM, with a service at the funeral home to follow at 6 PM. Mary will be cremated privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Condolences may be sent via www.obrienfuneralhome.com.
