Obituary for Andrew "Andy" Popovchak

Andrew “Andy" Popovchak, 93, of Barnegat NJ passed away on Friday November 23rd. Andy was born in Jersey City, NJ and the son of Stephen & Anastasia Popovchak. He was predeceased by his wife Alexandra, brother Max, and sisters Helen (Zenyuch) and Mildred (Youschak). He is survived by his son Stephen, daughter in-law Stacy, and three grandchildren Alexandra, Danielle, and Sarah.

Andy was a World War II veteran serving from 1944-1946 in England, France and the Philippines in the heavy armed maintenance ordinance battalion. After his military service he perfected his draftsman and tool & die making skills before retiring in 1995. He used his skills and talents to help one of his passions in contributing to the Orthodox Church in America parishes of St. Peter & Paul Jersey City, NJ and Holy Annunciation in Brick NJ through his candle making projects.

His faith and volunteering for the Orthodox church and within his local community were paramount to his career and retirement years. He enjoyed opera, Broadway and Orthodox Liturgical music. He also loved his family and friends and enjoyed the time he shared with them in many ways. He was especially fond of his granddaughters’ achievements and looked forward to participating in their activities whenever possible.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 2-6 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd., Brick. A Divine Liturgy will be held on Monday, November 26th at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, Brick followed by the interment at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth.
