Obituary for Eugenie T. Kight (d'Ablemont)

Eugenie “Jean” T. Kight 88, passed away at Jersey Shore Univ. Medical Center on Thursday, October 18, 2018. She was born on May 29, 1930 to Roland and Virginia (Neusch) d’Ablemont.

Jean was born in Bronx, NY, but her family relocated while she was very young to Rutherford, NJ. She grew up and graduated from high school in Rutherford. She married her high school sweet heart Richard “Dick” Kight, a union that lasted 62 years until Dick’s passing in 2013.

Aside from Rutherford, Jean and Dick lived in Mantoloking and Allentown, NJ, they also wintered in Marco Island, FL for many years.

Jean was always a very social person. She enjoyed entertaining and parties with family and a large circle of friends. She was involved in several organizations during her time on the Jersey Shore, including Questers, Gulls on the Go and the Mantoloking Garden Club.

After Dick’s retirement, opportunity allowed several years of travel, typically as part of various tour groups. Inevitably they would return from each trip with photos, memories and new lifelong friends. Even in her later years at Sunrise of Wall, Jean continued her warm, outgoing ways, making many new friends.

In addition to her late husband, Jean was predeceased by her parents and her sisters, Yvonne Smith and Joan Newsom. She is survived by her children Richard (Debbie) Kight of Columbus, OH, Patricia (Neil) deVesty of Bay Head, NJ, Nancy (Chris) Power of Dallas, TX, grandsons, Richard Kight III, Daniel (Julie) Kight, Jordan deVesty and Brett deVesty, and many nieces and nephews. She’ll be missed by all who knew her.
Jean’s family would like to express appreciation to the staff at Sunrise of Wall for the care provided to her in her final years. A private family celebration of her life will be held. O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall in charge of arrangements.
