Obituary for James Jeffrey "Jeff" Mosteller

James Jeffrey "Jeff" Mosteller
James Jeffrey Mosteller passed away from brain cancer at home in the early morning hours of October 9, 2018 with his loving wife and sons by his side.

James "Jeff" was born in Dayton, Ohio on October 23, 1946. He was the son of the late James and Helen “Abby" Mosteller of Morristown, NJ. He was predeceased by his younger brother Paul Mosteller in June 2013.
Jeff graduated from Hanover Park High School in New Jersey and was a standout wrestler. He attended the University of Maryland studying biological science and competed in collegiate gymnastics.

From 1968 to 1971, Jeff served in the US Army as Military Police in Vietnam. He earned sharpshooter status and shot in competitions for the Army. Jeff came home from the war and married his high school sweetheart, Jill Neumann Mosteller. They were married for 44 years.

Jeff lived in New Jersey most of his life including Whippany, Morristown, Pluckemin, and Point Pleasant. In 2017, he and Jill retired to Newburyport, Massachusetts.

Always the entrepreneur, Jeff once owned a paint and wallpaper store in Somerville, NJ and then a restaurant/bar in Milford, NJ. He finally found his true calling and for the last 30 years, he was a general contractor with many clients that loved him and his work. Clients would sometimes wait up to two years to begin their kitchen or bath remodeling project until Jeff would finally be available to take the job.

With a non-filter Camel cigarette in one hand and a glass of merlot in the other, wearing his signature flannel shirt and work boots, his odd sense of humor, storytelling, and dry wit were always the source of much laughter with friends and family. His culinary skills and love of cooking will also be missed.

Jeff is survived by his wife Jill and sons Kane and Kyle Mosteller, daughters-in-law Kate and Joanna and his grandchildren Ethan, Raphe, Jake, Charlie, Sadie, Noah, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on November 10th from 2-4pm with a service being held at 3:30 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jeff's memory are suggested to Toni’s Kitchen at 73 Fullerton Ave, Montclair, NJ 01042.
