Flaherty Jr.
Patricia was raised in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. She lived in Manhattan, NY with her husband Tom before residing for many years in Spring Lake, NJ and then to Johns Island, Vero Beach, Fla. She is survived by her oldest son, Thomas J. Flaherty III of Vero Beach, Fla; and her son, Sean C. Flaherty and daughter-in-law, Katie Flaherty and two grandsons, Liam and Shayne of Spring Lake, NJ. Patricia attended Dwight Englewood School for Girls and graduated from Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. Patricia worked for the NFL Commissioner’s’ Office after college and was always highly regarded for her knowledge of sports and sports trivia.
Patricia was well known for her world travels and amazing scope of knowledge. She was a fantastic person to chat with as she always told you the hard truth in a very classy way. She had a knack for making people feel good about themselves. Even when she would have to scold Tommy and Sean, she did it in an “elegant way”. Patricia was a mother figure to many kids from the neighborhood. She had a way of making people feel safe and loved. She has left many fond memories for all that crossed her path and spent time in her home. Patricia was always taking care of the boys and their friends…she was a den mother, class Mom forever, chauffer for all occasions, chef at the baseball shack, party planner and all around Super Mom.
One of her passions was philanthropy and some of her favorite charities included Indian River Medical Center, Boys and Girls Club of Vero Beach, Surfers for Autism, American Cancer Society, Jersey Shore Medical Center and St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth, Ireland.
Patricia loved to play golf, especially with her grandsons over the last few years. She was an avid tennis player for many years and a bookworm like no other. She loved riding horses and playing cards.
Patricia was a communicant of St. Catharine’s Church in Spring Lake and Holy Cross RC Church in Vero Beach, FL. She was also a member of the John’s Island Club in Vero Beach, FL and a lifelong member of the Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club in Spring Lake.
Patricia will always be remembered for her loving friendship and providing for her family. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be sorely missed.
