Obituary for Barthelomew L. "Bart" Major

Barthelomew L. Major, 53, of Howell, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, while diving. His family has derived some solace knowing that Bart passed away while doing what he loved.
Bart was born in the Bronx, and raised in Ringwood, N.J. He had lived in Howell for the last 27 years. He was a graduate of Lakeland Regional High School and Rutgers University, and earned his Master’s Degree at Wagner College. He worked as a Chemist for Glaxo Smith Kline for many years, before embarking on a second career as a Physician’s Assistant, at Staten Island University Hospital North. Bart was a Firefighter with the Ramtown Fire Department, a Scuba Diving Captain, and for the last four years had volunteered in Honduras with the Henry B. King Medical Brigade.
Bart is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Anne (nee Nikolic), and his daughters, Sara and Sofia. Also surviving are Bart’s parents, Gasper and Concetta Major, and his siblings, Gasper Major and his wife Mandy, of Sparta, Josephine Maguire and her husband Paul, of Ringwood, and Matthew Major, of Myrtle Beach, as well as nephews and nieces.
Memorial visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Saturday, July 14, 2018, from 1-4 P.M., with a service to follow at 4 P.M. in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bart Major Scholarship, which has been established by the Henry B.
