Marie Sassi - Ackatta of Spring Lake, joined her true love, Bill in heaven on Valentine’s Day. Born in Italy, November, 17, 1929.She immigrated to America in 1937. Marie lived in Jersey City, surrounded by family and lifelong friends. She also reveled in her job in the Garment District. Upon marrying the love of her life, William J Ackatta in 1964, they made their home in Bayonne. After her husband’s passing, Marie returned to work, this time in the Jewelry Industry. In 1999 Marie fulfilled her dream of living at the Jersey Shore. She loved cooking, dancing, shopping, playing cards, and going to the beach but most of all, participating in all aspects of her granddaughter’s life. Marie prided herself in devoting her life to her family. She had a quiet strength which sustained her through the challenges of her life. She will be remembered as kind, patient, supportive, loving and generous. Marie is predeceased by her parents, Frank and Madeline and husband Bill. Marie was a loving mother and grandmother to daughter Doreen and Son-In-Law John Brown and granddaughter Amanda Brown. She is also survived by her sister, Josephine Sloyan, brother, Frank Sassi, nephews, nieces and close friends. Marie was our guiding light. We are thankful to have had her in our lives and she will be profoundly missed. An alternative to flowers is a donation to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home on Monday.
Visitation will be on Monday from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, NJ, 07719. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 10:00am at Holy Innocents Church, 3455 West Bangs Ave., Neptune, NJ 07753. Entombment in St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt.
