Ellen M.  Cavanaugh (O'Gorman)
Ellen M. Cavanaugh, 92, of Avon, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Seacrest Village Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Little Egg Harbor.
Mrs. Cavanaugh (nee O’Gorman) was born and raised in Newark, and was a graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. Prior to marrying and raising her children, she worked at Prudential Insurance, Newark. She had lived in Avon since 1980, and was a member of the Women of Irish Heritage and the Spring Lake Garden Club.
Mrs. Cavanaugh was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Ellen (Coughlin) O’Gorman, and by her sister, Betty Cupka. She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Lawrence Cavanaugh, and by their children and their spouses, Larry and Mary Cavanaugh, of Ariz., James and Debbie Cavanaugh, of Tenn., Mark Cavanaugh, of Fla., Timothy Cavanaugh, of Va., and Christine and Robert Ross, of Galloway, NJ. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Ryan, Jacqueline and Matthew Cavanaugh, Jennifer Crim, and Kerry and Dylan Ross. Mrs. Cavanaugh is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Joanne O’Gorman, of Fla., and her sister, Nora Mulvihill, of Madison, NJ.
Visitation will take place at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, Wall, on Thursday, January 11, 2018, from 2-5 PM. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Avon, on Friday, January 12, 2018, at 10 AM, followed by burial at N.J. Veteran’s Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Cavanaugh’s memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 3 Eves Drive, Suite 310, Marlton, NJ 08053, or via www. alz.org.
